Nixon Peabody LLP Sponsors Forum

Portsmouth, New Hampshire, May 9, 2014 –  Local non-profit Leadership Seacoast, an organization committed to developing informed and active community leaders, recently explored the issues surrounding economic development in the Seacoast region during its Economic Development Day sponsored by Nixon Peabody LLP and held at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.

Noted economist Brian Gottlob of PolECon Research partnered with well-known developer Eric Chinburg of Chinburg Builders to review area statistics, challenges, and opportunities in their presentation “Economic Development in the Seacoast- the Big Picture”. With some of New Hampshire’s fastest growing cities in the Seacoast region, it is important for residents and business leaders alike to understand why economic development is important for our society and how to make advancements while still considering overall well being of the region.

The afternoon session brought Nancy Carmer, Economic Development Manager, City of Portsmouth; Renee Plummer, Vice President of Marketing, Two International Group; John Pelech, Founder, and CEO, Poly-recovery; Gerry McIroie, Town Planner of Kittery; and Michael Landgarten, owner of Robert’s Sea Grill and Bob’s Clam Hut in Kittery, Maine together for an interactive speed dating session where class members had one on one time with these local business leaders.

The highlight of the day was an in-depth look into the recent Hampton Beach redevelopment project, which was provided by Andy Herrick, Director of Communications and Marketing, Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom and John Nyhan, Former Chair, Hampton Beach Area Commission.   “The Hampton Casino was the perfect location for Economic Development Day as Hampton Beach is a current day example of a town that applied passion and risk-taking in its pursuit of a master plan for revitalization and redevelopment,” said Leadership Seacoast Executive Director Jennifer Wheeler.
