The Curriculum–
Program Days

The Leadership Seacoast program offers a total of nine program days, consisting of day-long workshops on a variety of interconnected topics:

Justice Day

As a result of this program day, participants will have an understanding of the:

  • Impact of the social issues, mental health and substance abuse on the criminal justice system;
  • Interconnectedness of criminal justice issues with other topical issues of examination throughout program year;
  • Best practices, data and current trends in the criminal justice system; and what initiatives are happening in other Seacoast communities.

Education

As a result of this program day, participants will have an understanding of the:

  • Innovative programming—its effectiveness, implications, cost and barriers to delivery—in Seacoast public schools;
  • Future of public education in the Seacoast.

Arts/Culture

As a result of this program day, participants will have an understanding of the:

  • Link of local arts and culture to economic development;
  • Impact of arts and culture to our quality of life;
  • Funding/accessibility issues around arts and culture in our community (including schools).

Economic Development

As a result of this program day, participants will have an understanding of the:

  • Relationship of local decision making to economic development;
  • Barriers and challenges to building economic development;
  • Local conditions and trends to developing our region’s economy;
  • Building of community through business (and vice versa).

Government

As a result of this program day, participants will have an understanding of the:

  • Legislative process and ease of access in NH;
  • Priorities of funding for other critical issues;
  • Importance of individual advocacy to impact various issues;
  • Role of local decision making.

Health and Human Services

As a result of this program day, participants will have an understanding of the:

  • Delivery of healthcare in the Seacoast and its impact on the region’s communities;
  • Cost of healthcare and social services;
  • Social services available in the region, their cost and benefit and barriers to delivery.

Environment

As a result of this program day, participants will have an understanding of the:

  • Balance between preserving and protecting our environment and convenience—and the role that balance has on our quality of life;
  • Renewable energy opportunities in the Seacoast;
  • Sustainability initiatives in the region.
