Special Forum Sponsored by Nixon Peabody LLP & Newburyport Five Cent Savings Bank
Portsmouth, New Hampshire, February 11, 2016 – Leadership Seacoast, an organization committed to developing informed and active community leaders, recently investigated issues that surround economic development along the Seacoast during its Economic Development Day sponsored by Newburyport Five Cent Savings Bank and Nixon Peabody LLP. This workshop was held at The Stone Church in Newmarket, New Hampshire.
During the morning session, well-known economist Brian Gottlob of PolEcon Research and prominent local developer Eric Chinburg of Chinburg Properties partnered up to discuss the challenges and opportunities of economic development in the seacoast. “Labor force and demographics are the keys to our high performing Seacoast economy,” reported Gottlob.
Then the forum presented economic development leaders from Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast, Cookson Strategies, Seacoast Manufacturing Exchange, and the NH Air National Guard in round-table style discussion. After a tour of the Newmarket Mills, a mill renovation project developed by Chinburg Properties, the class heard from city economic development leaders, Todd Selig, Administrator Town of Durham, Laurel Bistany, Rockingham Economic Development Corporation and Matt Sullivan Strafford RDC.
